Waves in Time – Meet the Speakers – Dan Kelly, Boolarong Press

6 April 2019

I am a proud ambassador for the upcoming Waves in Time conference on the Sunshine Coast. Ambassadors are doing a series of blog posts on speakers and sponsors to help promote the conference and get the excitement going.

My third interview is with Dan Kelly from Boolarong Press.

We have asked him a set of questions to learn more about his interest in publishing and history. Questions are in italics.

I wonder if you could tell us a little about your background? Are you a genealogist, researcher, historian or representing your organisation? How has genealogy/family history/history/heraldry improved or changed your life?

I have been heavily involved in publishing Queensland local and family history over the last 20 years. It is what I do. Out of many histories great biographies are discovered. Boolarong’s main genres remain history and biographies.

What do you love most about genealogy/family history/history/heraldry?

What I love is understanding the changes that the world has gone through and how that relates to the strength of each generation. Life is getting physically easier for everyone, but not mentally unfortunately.

Have you attended a History Queensland Conference in previous years?

Yes

What are your key topics for the Waves in Time Conference?

I’m presenting and selling great books.

How do you think your topic/s will help the family & local historians at the Waves in Time Conference?

I want to encourage everyone to consider writing their biography – even if it is just for the family.

What do you think are the benefits of attending a large conference like this, for you personally and for others attending?

For me, it is getting to many people at once.

Do you have a favourite piece of advice or a tip or trick you can share with conference attendees?

Don’t procrastinate – do it. Life is short.

Is there somewhere we can connect with you online?

All our our books are online.

If you could pick one new project to do, what would it be? (Assuming no funding issues)

I would like someone to research and write a book about the Mt Morgan Gold Mine and follow the money.

Thanks Dan for those answers and we all look forward to catching up with you in person at the Waves in Time conference in May.

As an Ambassador I receive a free registration in return for promoting the conference in various social media forums and on my website and blog. In addition I am also giving a free talk at the Friday Fair which is open to the public and free. More details on the Waves in Time website.

Well RootsTech is all over again for another year. My only disappointment was that it was not in person. I have been promising myself this trip for the last few years but something has always prevented me from attending. Maybe 2023 will be the year. While virtual, it...
