The Ancestral Places Geneameme

26 August 2017

I am participating in Alona Tester’s family history blogging challenge of an alphabetical ancestral placename geneameme. It has taken me a little while to get started as I have been busy as the voluntary coordinator of National Family History Month in Australia.

But as August draws to an end, this is a fitting way to end my own family history activities during NFHM. By focusing on place names it has given me the opportunity to remember just how much some of my ancestors did move around. Thanks Alona for the blog suggestion.

I have limited myself to two places per letter with some letters only have one place and none under X which is probably not too surprising.

RootsTech Connect 2022: My experience

Well RootsTech is all over again for another year. My only disappointment was that it was not in person. I have been promising myself this trip for the last few years but something has always prevented me from attending. Maybe 2023 will be the year. While virtual, it...

  1. A great list Shauna. Yours and my ancestors may have known Pauleen Cass’ ancestors in Charters Towers. I’m always a little envious of those who know where their Irish ancestors came from for mine I’m yet to find the county let alone the town.

  2. Gosh, you managed to fit this in with your busy FHM schedule. Great work.

  3. Thanks Kylie yes it would be interesting to see who lived where in Charters Towers, what school, what church – perhaps our families did know each other. A blogging challenge in the future??

  4. Thanks Fran – yes it was time out just for me but a really useful exercise to browse through all my locations. Lots of ideas for later blogs.
